Recap
of the 2008 MSG Championship Games:
= >
12 UNDER: CT KNIGHTS (Connecticut) ~vs.~ TEAM CROSSOVER
ELITE (Delaware)
What
would any tournament be without a Cinderella team? The 12U Team
Crossover Elite from Wilmington, Delaware was the Cinderella
team of the 2008 Road to the Garden. They may have been undersized
but you couldn't question their hearts. The CT Knights were big
and strong at every position. They would not be denied an opportunity
to secure that covenant Road to the Garden trophy! The CT Knights
and Team Crossover Elite exchanged baskets in the opening minutes
of the game. Team Crossover Elite tried hard to stay in the game
but the CT Knights were tough to match up with. Team Crossover
hustled on every play but the CT Knights were too much for them.
Although the game was getting away from Team Crossover they continued
to fight and never gave up. Team Crossover tried to regroup but
could not find an answer for the CT Knights. The CT Knights began
to pull away and widen the gap as the game went on. The CT Knights
won convincingly and the 2008 Road to the Garden would belong
to them!!
=>
13 UNDER: MOVE YOUR FEET (NJ) ~vs.~ WESTCHESTER HAWKS
In
the battle between two determined teams, Move Your Feet captured
the 13u Championship with a stunning come from behind victory
over the Westchester Hawks in over time. The Westchester Hawks
jumped out to a early lead in the 1st half only to succumb to
some costly turnovers and missed shots before allowing Move Your
Feet to emerge with a victory.
=>
14 UNDER: HOOPSTARZ GYM RATZ (NJ) ~vs.~ TEAM CROSSOVER
ELITE (Delaware)
The
game between Team Crossover Elite and the Hoopstarz Gymratz was
the most highly anticipated game of the day. Both teams dominated
their pool play and played with grit and determination in their
semi-final games. The teams are so evenly matched so it was no
surprise the game would be determined in overtime. There was
no overall favorite to win. Team Crossover Elite from Wilmington,
Delaware and the Hoopstarz Gymratz from New Jersey both have
big men that can knock down the mid-range jumper as well as drive
the ball to the basket. Nothing would be easy for either of these
teams to secure that covenant Road to the Garden trophy. Both
coaches preached defense! When the game started Team Crossover
Elite attacked the glass early, trying to establish their rebounding
prowess. They trapped the Hoopstarz Gymratz at every opportunity
and the Hoopstarz Gymratz attacked right back by going to the
basket strong. It appeared Team Crossover Elite was building
momentum as the game went on. The Hoopstarz Gymratz fully understood
what was on the line and began to assert themselves in the second
half. With eight minutes left the Hoopstarz Gymratz big men knew
they had to shut the paint down! They also had to get to the
basket if they wanted to cut into Team Crossover Elite's slim
lead. The Hoopstarz Gymratz scrambled for every loose ball. The
game grew more intense at every possession. Who would rise to
the occasion? With under thirty seconds left in regulation Team
Crossover Elite had a three point lead. The Hoopstarz Gymratz
would not go away quietly and in dramatic fashion they tied the
game with a three pointer with only a few seconds left in regulation.
The game was officially sent into overtime and no one was surprised.
After two heart-wrenching minutes of overtime the team all the
way from Wilmington, Delaware captured the hearts and emotions
of their fans, family and friends! The 2008 Road to the Garden
would belong to Team Crossover Elite!
=>
16 UNDER: LONG ISLAND LIGHTENING ~vs.~ SOUTH JERSEY
BORO BLITZ
The
stage was set and a long day was coming to an end as the 16u
division pitted the undefeated South Jersey Boro Blitz versus
the Long Island Lightening. Both teams winning their group and
going undefeated with 3-0 records in the preliminary games at
Ramapo College, a battle for supremacy was definitely in the
works. Once the game started, the South Jersey Boro Blitz came
out strong easily defeating the Long Island Lightening to capture
the championship.
